We did not start the day too early since we had a long day yesterday so no big rush to get up and out. The weather was perfect. Clear blue skies and low 80s and a nice breeze. We wandered down 5th avenue and did a little shopping before heading to our afternoon matinee of Stereophonic which won best play at the Tony awards this year.
The set is based on a record being made by a rock band in the 70s and the whole play takes place inside a recording studio which was very well done. As to the play……well I have decided that I am not really a play person and really enjoy musicals so much more. The play was 3 hours and 10 minutes long with an intermission. The story was good but not edge of your seat good. There were a few people that left at intermission but you did want to stay and see how the story came out which played out over several years.
After the play we walked back to the hotel to change and we walked through Bryant Park which we have seen lots in the winter with the ice skating rink but never in the summer.
It’s like a mini lawn from Central Park
Did some pics of the architecture and the windows are from the Empire State Building and I love the 30s art deco windows. I also zoomed in on the top of the Empire State Building and notice the “wings” on the side of the tower which are also so art deco.
We grabbed a late lunch early dinner before heading off to our next Broadway show.
We had some sangria with our meal!
While walking back to Broadway we stopped to listen to a street musician outside the library. I love the electric violin especially when accompanying todays pop hits.
The next show we saw has been out for awhile and it is written by the same writer who did Schitt’s Creek. It had some really good comedy, empowering story line and good music and dancers. They took pop songs from several artists including Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, N’Sync and fit the songs in with the story line. It was really good and the women who played Shakespeare’s wife had a killer voice.
The 2 who played Shakespeare and his wife Ann, both with great voices and then the cast with tons of confetti raining down. We were in the 3rd row and they dropped confetti twice. I can’t imagine having to clean the theatre every night but it was fun.
After the show we walked back to the hotel through Bryant Park which was still pretty busy even at 11pm.
