Sea Day (Day 105)

April 5th, 2024

We are finishing up the last of 3 days at sea as we cross the Indian Ocean to the continent of Africa. The first day and 1/2 after leaving Mauritius was quite rough but then it calmed down. Apparently remnants of the cyclone recently in the area.

The sea days have been uneventful and we did our usual routine. For my Mah Jongg friends we were able to get a copy of the new card and we are able to play now with the 2024 card. For those of you that know Mah Jongg you know that is a big deal!

Kathy has also continued her felting and we are now getting quite a collection in our room. Luckily they are very small but we have added a turtle and a penguin to our collection.

Kathys felting menagerie.

I did sort through my snorkeling pictures from Mauritius and picked out a few favorites.

Black & white damsel Unsure but loved the color

A pipe fish blending in with the sea grass The damsels and the aqua marine fish hide in the coral

Trigger fish This guy was by himself and looks like a damsel but isn’t

Tons of the aqua marine fish in all sizes and the same with the damsels

When you swam up to them they all scattered into the coral

I do believe that will be the last water adventure we have on this trip but who knows. We still have safaris and whale watching to go! We are also now at the 5 week mark. The beginning part of this cruise seemed to take forever and now we know it will fly.

We have had some beautiful sunsets but my favorites are always the ones where it is just a big red ball that sinks into the ocean.

Another great sunset

Tonight we had another special event in the restaurant. It was Italian family night and you had to sit at tables for 6 or more. We had some of our cruising family at a table for 10.

Our special menus

Huge plates of food were put on the table for all to enjoy. Way to much food by the way.

Our dinner dates

We will dock in Richards Bay South Africa in the am. We will be getting off the ship with 94 other people to do a 5 day/4 night African Safari and also visit Victoria Falls. Viking has chartered us a jet and tomorrow we will fly to Johannesburg, South Africa and spend the night and then on Sunday morning we will fly to Kasane which is where Chobe Game Lodge is and spend 2 nights and do 3 safaris and then head to Victoria Falls for the night. We will rejoin the ship in Cape Town on April 10th. The only negative of the whole trip is that we will miss Cape Town but we were not expecting to be here now so who knows what the future holds.

I will try to post while we were gone but I am not taking the laptop for several reasons. I can post from the phone so we will see how the wi-fi is.
