Kuala Lumpur (Day 2 of 2)

April 20th, 2025 (Easter Sunday)

We woke up to rain and gray skies. We had no plans for today but the cruise ship offered a shuttle to a mall 30 minutes away. We figured we could go and get a few steps in walking around in the air-conditioning. We made the 9:30 shuttle and got some coffee for Kathy and a caramel peanut butter drink for me.

We were wondering if anything would be closed since it was easter but everything was open. We do realize that Easter is not a big holiday for Malaysia since Christianity is not a major religion here.

We walked around the mall for 2 hours and looked in several stores just to see what they were all about. We made no purchases and caught the 11:30 shuttle back to the ship.

Since there is nothing close to the port they allowed several food trucks and also tables to be brought in. The food trucks were all different types of Malaysian food and we did see lots of crew out there ordering and eating. We also saw several crew bringing back take out containers and we assume that was for the staff that could not get time off the boat.

The other thing we wanted to mention was gas prices in Malaysia. All the prices are set by the government and the government subsidizes the cost. We wondered why we would pass by gas stations and there were no signs posted with prices so we had asked our guide about it yesterday. All the gas companies are not the same but apparently all the prices are strictly regulated. We explained to our guide Abdul about gas wars and how they worked.

This 3 masted boat was docked on the other side of our cruise ship and we thought it was a museum but apparently you can rent it out for events or to travel around Malaysia. It was still raining as we returned from the mall. We spent the afternoon reading trying to finish off some of the books we brought so we don’t have to take them home and can leave them in the library onboard.

Since it was Easter we wondered if the cruise ship was going to do anything. We have been on Viking for 2 Easters now and they inundate you with chocolate. Chocolate bunnies everywhere and 2 Lindt bunnies in each room. Last year they had so many bunnies and in all different sizes.

Oceania does it a little bit differently and had a big Easter egg display on the 5th floor which contains the restaurant, casino and 2 bars. They also had giant bowls of jelly beans and Cadbury bream eggs in 2 different sizes. I guess the plan was to walk by and take what you wanted.

The Easter display.

We are unsure what these eggs are made of but they did once decorations and of course Kathy loved the minion.

The sun came out later in the afternoon and we had a nice sailaway. They had the Captain’s welcome party during sail away but we have already been to 2 and did not feel like going to another.

The Port Klang cruise terminal.

When we got back to our room after dinner there was a small box on the bed with 4 truffles in it.

Next stop is Penang, Malaysia. We are in the middle of 9 port days in a row.
