Huahine, Tahiti

March 8th, 2025

Today we had a snorkeling trip in 3 different places and a picnic lunch. There were 11 of us from the ship and we passed the boat that had the snorkelers from the ship and that boat was packed. We took the first tender into port and met our guide at 8:45. we then drove to the other side of the island where we picked up our boat. Huahine is a pretty remote island with beautiful water color but not a place that a lot of tourists come to. Minus water sports there is not a lot to do on the island. There is a small community that lives on 1 side of the island and there are no roads that lead there so everything is by boat. They have no electricity or running water. Several times they have offered to build a road to the village but the villagers always no. They like their lifestyle.

We did a total of 3 snorkeling stops. 2 before lunch and then 1 after.

The water color is beautiful and crystal clear.

On our way to the picnic spot a pod of dolphins came and swam right along side the boat.

The picnic was on a beach with picnic tables right on the edge of the water. The guides showed us how to shell a coconut which we have seen many times before but always fun to watch. They also had fresh tuna which they chemically cook with fresh coconut milk and lime juice. They add in carrots, cucumbers and onions to the raw tuna and then mix it all together.

The Beach we were on and us having our picnic lunch.

We stayed on the island enjoying the crystal clear water and eating our picnic lunch which included grilled chicken, tuna salad, a green salad, rice and coconut bread. They also had tons of cold beer and rum punch.

After lunch they drove us around the island in the boat and stopped for 1 more snorkeling experience. I always love the bright blue fish around the heads of coral.

We passed a few of these houses that are on the water. Our guide told us they were Air B&Bs. Cool idea but getting there must be a total pain.

We were back on the pier by 3pm and grabbed the first tender back to the boat. We were not really hungry after our picnic lunch and did not want to dress up for the dining room so we went up to the buffet.

Tomorrow is Bora Bora and we have another snorkeling/picnic booked through Viator.
