Papeete, Tahiti

March 7th, 2025

We woke up to a beautiful day and decided to spend an hour at the pool prior to check out at 11am.

The infinity pool with the island of Moorea in the distance and where we had lunch the last 2 days.

We checked out at 11 and hung out in the hotel lobby and waited for the 11am checkout rush to pass by. We got a taxi at noon and headed to the port. Check-in was quick and our room was not quite ready so we went up to the buffet and had a quick bite and by then the room was ready. We have a stern cabin as mentioned before and we have only had that once before so looking forward to it.

The view right now leaves a little bit to be desired but nice balcony and there is shade and privacy.

We waited for our bags to be delivered before heading into town. There is a big open air market where we have gotten flowers before for the room and it is close to the port. We also decided to find a grocery store and maybe grab a bag of chips. We always crave those on cruises and we figured the islands were going to be more expensive than Papeete so it was now or wait until Auckland. As mentioned everything is very expensive here and a bag of Fritos and Doritos was $16.00 so 8 dollars a bag.

Kathy made 2 new friends!!

Some colorful street art.

We made our way back to the market and Kathy picked out the flower bundle that she wanted. I was thinking if we just had to pay $20 it would be good but the bundle was $10 which was excellent.

We headed back to the ship. It took a bit but we got everything unpacked and there is a lot of storage but while everything is away I am sure we will do some adjusting. We will take some pictures of the room soon and post those. The bathroom is a little small but we are spoiled by Viking’s bathrooms so we compare everything to that these days.

We had a welcome bottle of Prosecco which we enjoyed after unpacking and while getting ready for dinner.

Our 10 dollar flower bundle.

We had dinner reservations at the steak house on board and Kathy had Maine lobster and I had a filet. This boat has 2 specialty restaurants, a steak house and an Italian restaurant. We get 9 reservations in each so 1 down for the steak house.

Tomorrow is Huahine, Tahiti and we have a snorkeling trip planned through Viator so not a ships tour.. It is a tender port so no docking and we have to be on the pier at 8:45 so an early morning to make sure we make it on time.

    1. Nope, not anywhere close to it. It’s on the east side of Australia or at least it was. We’ve got a ways to go before we get there. We did see that Jakarta got a lot of flooding from the storm and that is supposed to be one of our stops, so we’re sort of waiting for them to cancel that to the flooding.
