This is another port that we have never been to before and it is very similar to Cornwall. Nice English city built on the coast. We did not have an excursion planned here so we took the shuttle into town and walked around for a few hours. Unfortunately the weather was typical English weather and mostly gray and rainy. The port was about 30 minutes away from town so no way you could walk it but they had lots of double decker shuttles to take you to and from the boat.
This is from the bus window but you can see all the boats lined up on shore.
We mainly walked along the wharf and I happily took boat pictures
Another town where boats were everywhere
Shops and restaurants lined both sides of the docks
An old wooden rowboat
We passed by a rowing club and we had recently seen the movie “The Boys in the Boat” so I had to get some pictures. The movie is a true story about a rowing club and the Olympics and it was very good.
Lots of row boats
We walked down to a pier and watched some people fishing and walked down to a beach that was all rocks
The water was very clear
We thought the bench was really cool. Too big to take home though 🙂
After our walk out to the end of the pier we headed back into town to get some lunch. It was raining pretty steadily.
Colorful buildings lined the water.
Some of the buildings were quite old.
There were lots of Inns and Bed & Breakfast that lined the waterfront. Kathy spotted the Labradoodle looking out the window at all the people passing by.
We found a nice pub and only locals were there and we had a nice pub lunch. Then we headed back to the shuttle stop to go back to the ship.
A couple of the Mah Jongg players wanted to get together for a few games so 3 of us played for a bit. As I said before, 1 of our players is getting off on Friday in Southampton so we have to find a 4th for the remaining 3 sea days.
Sail away was quite gloomy
A picture of Portland from the boat and you can see how gray it is.
It did clear enough to give us a beautiful sunset which we have not had in awhile.
We dock in Southampton tomorrow and that will probably be our last cool day. Then on to Spain and Portugal where it looks like it will be hot but not the extreme heat they have been experiencing. As I said before 600+ people are staying on for this next 10 day cruise and we will be getting 1600 new passengers including a new Captain.
The bench looks like two lounges facing each other
