We are finishing up our 3rd sea day after we left Greenland on our way to Reykjavik, Iceland. The weather has been cold, cloudy and rainy so you don’t feel like doing much and it’s especially cold when you step outside. I have played Mah Jongg every morning so that was good and the afternoon is spent watching movies or reading and napping. We will be glad to get on land tomorrow although as we said before it has been very smooth sailing.
We did get notification last night that we got the Guinness world record for the largest pizza party at sea. While only 423 guests from the Island participated overall there were 11,445 on all 16 of the Princess ships. The notice told us that there were pizza parties on 3 continents and 8 time zones. They had lunch time pizza in Alaska, dinner time festivities in the Caribbean and Canada/NewEngland, late night in the med and British Isle and a crack of dawn event in Japan.
More than 1500 pizzas were consumed using 6,500 pounds of flour and 2,300 pounds of cheese and 1,400 pounds of pepperoni on all 16 ships.
After leaving Nuuk Greenland we did see quite a bit of ice and understood what the Captain meant when he said we could not get into the 2 Greenland ports we were supposed to go into due to ice flows.
This was off our balcony and if you looked with the binoculars past the floating ice it looked like a solid wall of ice all along the coast.
We passed a couple of big icebergs. The bridge came over the loud speaker when we were passing one of the larger bergs and said it was about 2 miles away.
We also saw what we thought were dolphins off the balcony but then realized they were pilot whales.
The fin is very distinct
This looked like a mom and her baby
We had drinks one night with one of the ladies I play Mah Jongg with and we also were on the Peggy’s Cove tour with her and her husband Brad. Brad was sharing with us a very unique hobby he has to pass the time. He used to be a contractor for small renovations with his dad and is very comfortable using a CAD program for reno designs. His hobby now is that he binges on TV shows like The Gilmore Girls, One Day at A Time, Gilligan’s Island and I Love Lucy and while he is binging he is taking notes on the house that the show takes place in. Then he goes into his design program and maps out the entire house or in the case of Gilligan’s Island he did the whole island. Once he has the whole house designed including where all the furniture is exactly like on the show he prints the design out on a large format color printer in the size 18 x 24 and sells them for 50 dollars each. He has done about 50 of these so far and I will try to get a picture to include next time. His wife says she always knows when he is working on a new design because he locks himself in the office for hours on end and she can hear the TV going.
Tomorrow is Reykjavik and we are supposed to go whale watching. The high is 51 degrees and cloudy with some rain so we will see.
Interesting hobby of your travel companion. I’m looking forward to a picture of the end result.
Sorry for the “greyness” of the day. Was thinking about the fjords in Chili where there was sunshine!
Thanks for rubbing that in 🙂
