Halifax, Nova Scotia

July 7th, 2024

We docked at 8am and we got off a little before 9am. We had a short walk to the Westin hotel where we met our guide. There were 5 of us in the van and the driver. 2 of the other people in the van were also on the cruise ship. We had opted for a tour of Peggy’s Cove which is a picturesque lighthouse surrounded by rocks. We have been here before but it has been years so we wanted to see it again. It is about an hour drive to the cove and our guide, William, kept us well entertained with stories about the region.

It was a very foggy day and a little humid but when the ocean breeze hit you it was chilly.

I loved the chairs on the rock with the lighthouse in the background.

We walked around the rocks for awhile and you were allowed to go wherever you wanted as long as you stayed off the dark rocks which were the wet ones because they were slippery. There were signs all over that if you fell in you were on your own there was no rescue. They did have a ranger with a whistle that would signal if you got to close.

There were musicians that took turns playing while you walked around the light house. First was the bagpipes and then the log alpine horn.

There were also lots of painters set up around the lighthouse and the harbor.

Kathy made a new friend

We had 90 minutes to explore and see the lighthouse and then William picked us back up for the ride back to the pier. The other couple from the boat wanted to be dropped off at a place that had good chowder and they asked us if we wanted to come along. Kathy and I got lobster rolls while they both got chowder. After lunch they Ubered back to the pier and Kathy and I walked back. Halifax has a great waterfront and is a nice walk back to the pier.

We passed this hug yacht docked right in downtown and when we looked it up it was the SamSara and it is the new yacht that JK Rowling just purchased in June. Apparently she leases it out for a week at a time for a little over 1 million a week.

We walked around for a bit and all on board was 4:30 so we made it back 45 minutes before that. The Captain came on to tell us that it might get bumpy during the night and that there might be fog that was quite heavy. We also don’t have far to go and tomorrow is a sea day so I guess we will be going very slow. The Captain also said that the high tomorrow would be 61 degrees.

Another beautiful sunset
