Lisbon, Portugal (Day 131)

May 1st, 2024

Another cool day with a high of only 62 and no rain forecasted. Since we had no plans we slept in a little and did not get off until about 10am. We mainly wandered today and just kept walking up and ended up at some great view points.

Our boat

Here we are practicing our selfies

A panoramic shot including our boat

There was an MSC boat in port and we look so small behind it.

Some doorway graffiti and the place on the left is where we had dinner last night but there are several restaurants on both sides all along the street.

They have these antique car replicas that you see all over the city and you can get a tour in one.

Also the Tuk-Tuks are everywhere offering city tours and it is much easier for them to travel on all the narrow cobblestone streets.

Colorful doors are everywhere

We made it to the top of one hill which has the Castle of St Jorge on it but it was closed today because it is labor day in Portugal. Apparently the grounds have lots of peacocks on them and they were quite vocal.

The castle walls

This guy escaped from the castle and was showing off for the tourists. It was so windy I kept waiting for him to tip over with the feathers on full display.

Another view point overlooking the city

Everything either goes up or down

Beautiful doors and archways

After wandering around for most of the morning we headed back down to the water to a place called Time Out which is basically a huge food wall where you have to fight to find seats and then you pick a place or multiple places to order food from. They have traditional Portuguese food, lots of seafood, burgers and croquettes. It is an interesting experience and not one for the faint of heart. We ended up with tempura fried green beans which we have had before and these are huge green beans about 10 inches long. We also got some croquettes which is also a Portuguese dish and they are filled with different things. I got a curry and peanut one and a goat cheese and vegetable one for Kathy and I got a beef and pork one for me. They were very good. We also got a dozen of our favorite Portuguese treat the Pastel De Nata which is a small custard pie which you put powdered sugar and cinnamon on and they are wonderful.

After lunch we walked around some more admiring the tiled buildings.

We love all the different colors.

The pedestrian street looking back on the arch

All on board was 3:30 and we got back on at 3:15. The boat did not sail until 4:30 due to a late tour.

A view of the square and the arch as we sail past.

Lisbon

This large monument is on the Tagus river which is actually where the boat docks and is called the Monument of Discoveries and was built to commemorate all of the Portuguese sailors who went out discovering the new world.

Next stop is Porto, Portugal tomorrow.
