The rain is gone and the great weather is back. Clear blue skies and highs in the mid 60s. We originally had an all day tour planned but switched out for the included walking tour. We had a great guide and he had the bus drop us off at the top of the city so we could walk down.
Tangier is a part of the African continent but it lies just 8 sea miles away from Gibraltar. It has a strategic location where the Mediterranean and Atlantic meet. It has been very popular with Europeans over the years and several famous people have made Tangier their home in the past.
The old wall that protected the city.
We found the city to be very clean and has a lot of colorful doors and arches based on the arabic heritage.
We went up to the old quarter where the markets were.
I took a lot of door pictures
We went into a museum which is the museum of the Casbah. Its exhibits showcase artifacts spanning Morocco’s history. Most of the rooms only had a couple of artifacts in it so it did not take long to go through.
Tile on the floor of the museum
Some of the columns in the museum
After the museum we went out one the many gates from ancient times and had great views of the ocean.
The gate leading out of the casbah, all the tiny fishing boats
Great water color
They had bricked up one of the entrances
Some of the colorful narrow streets we went down, The drawing is a depiction of Matisse who visited Tangier twice in 1912 and 1913 and stayed several months each time.
More doors and arches
After the tour we went back to the boat thinking we would go back into town again since it was still early. With both of us still recovering from the crud and not really anything to shop for we ended up staying on the boat.
Tangier
The water was so may shades of blue.
More of Tangier
Sailing past the Strait of Gibraltar
We had a sail away party in Kathy and Micheal’s suite on the front of the ship and we all brought our bottles of champagne that we have had since the beginning of the cruise. Our favorite bartender Aaron hooked us up with a pitcher of Creme de Cassis to add to the champagne. As we were watching sail away we heard noise below us and turns out our friends on deck 3 were doing the same thing. Funny thing was it was mostly people from the 21/22 world cruise.
The party below us with Gin, Stan, Harley, Ross and John.
We are now done with the continent of Africa and next stop will be Cadiz, Spain.
