Langkawi is a resort area known for its white sand beaches. We did not dock until 10am and the sail in was very pretty with all the islands that we passed. We had clear blue skies and a high of 93.
All the surrounding islands of Malaysia of which there are 99 unless it is low tide and then there are 104
We had clear blue skies and the landscape looked a lot like Maine to us.
We were doing the included tour which was a trip to a rice plantation and then we were going to a place called Eagle Square that had a huge statue of an eagle which overlooks the harbor. They have lots of eagles in Langkawi and the name Langkawi stands for Eagle and marble. The eagle is the symbol of Langkawi.
First stop was the rice fields where they showed you how the rice used to be harvested.
They showed us how they plant the rice
They had water buffaloes that used to be used to plow the fields and harvest the rice but they were replaced by machinery years ago.

Some flowers and birds at the rice fields
They also showed us how they shuck the coconuts and how they use every bit of the coconut just like in Vietnam. They had a stand where they were selling all types of coconut products. According to them coconut can be used for sun screen, sunburn, muscle aches and pains, sinus problems and can also help with wrinkles. They sold a lot of products today with all the Viking tours going through.
Next stop was the Eagle landing. It is a very nice area and the eagle was built on a five pointed star which extends out into the water.
You can see how big the eagle is.
The water is a beautiful turquoise
Next to Eagle Square was a shopping mall and it had a 7-11 store which we have seen all over Southeast Asia. It also had a Starbucks and we went in and bought a Malaysia coffee cup and 2 grande Frappuccino and the cost was 13 dollars US. Things are cheap in Malaysia.
We did a little bit of shopping in the mall and then it was back to the pier.
One of our finds today was the ceramic necklace for Kathy and the bracelet for me. They are made here in Malaysia and the necklace cost 4 dollars US and the bracelet was 2.50.
The ship had a shuttle bus that was taking people into town to a duty free mall. Since it was still early and all on board was not until 7pm we took the shuttle. We picked up a few things and walked around some and then we were back on the shuttle to the pier.
Some boat pictures
There was a hotel at the pier owned by Resort World. It did not look very busy but they had some nice facilities.
They had a nice infinity pool right on the water.
There were several restaurants on the pier when walking back to the ship. It is Ramadan here so no eating our drinking anything from the locals until sundown. This restaurant was setting up for dinner after the sunset. I was thinking that if any of us from the cruise ship sat down at one of these low tables to eat they would not be getting back up easily.
We had a great sunset
We are headed to Georgetown, Malaysia which is a big city. This will be our 6th port day in a row and with the heat it has been a little bit draining. Georgetown is not that far from Langkawi so we are going very slow. Plus fishing is a big business in Malaysia and we are dodging all these little fishing boats.
The water is so pretty. It makes me want to swim. But it’s 46 degrees here today.
We plan to watch Crazy Rich Asians tonight so that Nancy will get all the pool references!
I hope you like(d) it. It has both mah-jongg and the swimming pool. I can’t believe you’ve never seen it.
