Koh Samui, Thailand (Day 82)

March 13th, 2024

Koh Samui is Thailand’s second largest island after Phuket. It has lots of white powder sandy beaches, clear turquoise water and lots of resorts. We had to tender in today since we anchored but the island provided the tenders and they were quite are and held a ton of people and more comfortable that the ships tenders.

The view from our balcony this morning. We were anchored when the sun was coming up.

This is one of the tenders they used. Multiple levels, plenty of space and goo air circulation.

We took the tender ride into town and then we were loaded in vans that hold 9 people. That was another 40 minutes to get around to the island where the speedboats were stored. Once we got on the speedboat we had another 40 minute boat ride to our first snorkeling spot. So lots of moving parts to get to where we wanted to go.

The snorkeling was from the back of the boat and the coral looked good but what they really had was tons of sea anemones which protect the clownfish. We saw lots of them and they were darting in an out of the anemone. I got some good video which I will add to tomorrow post.

We spent 45 minutes there and it was a nice spot. One girl dropped her go pro right after they got in the water. You could see it, it was about 6 feet down but it fell in a crevice and there was a black spiny sea urchin close by. We stayed out of it and the 4 man crew spent most of the 45 minutes trying to get the camera. They finally did by using a hook that they have on the boat. She was pretty excited and did go around and give all 4 of the guides 10 dollars each for helping her.

After snorkeling we loaded up and headed to a beach not too far away. It was white sand and had a few low key resorts on the beach. Kathy found a spot to sit under a tree so she was shaded. I went in to do some more snorkeling but there was not much there.

Pretty boats on the water

They use these boats for fishing

More boats Me getting in the water.

After the beach stop we loaded back in the boat and headed to another beach which is our lunch stop. They had a buffet with chicken and cashews, some sort of fried egg folded over, seafood soup and chicken wings. It was pretty good. We had about 1 hour and 15 minutes for this stop so I took a few beach pictures.

You can see how white the beach is

This is the coolest umbrella holder. Just not sure how to get it home. I liked the Coke Zero can with the dragon on it

When our time was up we loaded back on the boat for another 40 minute ride and then loaded into the vans for that return trip and then we got loaded on the tenders to return to the ship.

The welcome sign at the pier.

I just liked the red window frame with the rope knot.

We watched sail-away from the balcony. We also had a beautiful sunset.

Sunset.

Tomorrow is a sea day that everyone iOS looking forward to sincere then have 7 port days in a row. We will be in Singapore on the 15th and stay for 2 nights, 3 days. We ahve been before but it was a long time ago and we are going to stay in the Marina Bay Sands hotel which is the hotel where they had the big engagement party on the roof with the pool. We want to swim in that pool so we will spend the night there. We are looking forward to it and just figuring out the logistics.
