January 30, 2024
Today we cross the international date line. We will do this about 12:15pm and they are having a big brunch on the pool deck to celebrate. Last night, before we went to be, we were instructed to manually change our phones to 1/29 so that when we woke up they would be on the correct day which is Tuesday January 30th. I confess this is very confusing to me, what happened to Monday the 29th? Everyone back home at Monday but we skipped it and went straight to Tuesday. I can’t seem to wrap my head around this concept but meanwhile Kathy is having no problems with it. I mean I sent work e-mails on Sunday night but the people back home would not have seen them until Tuesday? We all had the same hours in the day so again what happened to Monday? Anyway we are now on Tuesday and we are 6 hours behind the east coast time. We have 2 more days at sea until we arrive at Waitangi New Zealand.
Yesterday, which was Sunday (Yup still confused) I was able to watch the Chiefs game. It took awhile to stream and we had a picnic lunch in the cabin so I would not hear the score and I was very pleasantly surprised because I thought they would lose to the Ravens.
This is my set up. I was watching the game on the iPad looking out the window at the sea. Not a bad view.
Today is pretty choppy and bouncy and the Captain warned us it would be this way. They tried to do star gazing last night but again cloudy. Supposedly the Southern Cross star constellation is visible but you have to get up early and look on the horizon. I think we will just wait until further south and see it then.
We did another couple of loads of laundry last night and the show must have been very good because the laundry room was completely empty which only happens when everyone wants to see the show. The shows only last about 45 minutes but by the time the show is over no one wants to start laundry because by then it is almost 10pm and laundry takes 90 minutes to do.
I am off to Mah Jongg and Kathy is at the gym and I will continue to try to figure out what happened to Monday the 29th. Does than mean if I am on the ship and my birthday was the 29th that I did not get one this year?
Worse yet, what if we crossed the date line on Christmas Day, does that mean Santa would not find me and no Christmas?
More later on the brunch and celebration of crossing the date line.
We really enjoyed the 29th……maybe you can get it back when your next crossing.
Your too funny. -x
I knew the 29th would be a good day. Sorry we missed it 🙁
Time travel is amazing isn’t it? Once I flew home from Tokyo on my birthday and since we were traveling east over the international date line I got to see the sun come up twice on the same day. I sort of had two birthdays that year.
I lived on Guam for a year and a half – same time zone as Tokyo, and also, like you are now, across the international date line. My suggestion is to not worry about the date here. The only date and time that counts is where you are now.
This year is leap year also. I’m with you Allison, very confusing
Thanks for the reminder, forgot about that.
