Cartagena, Columbia (Day 6)

December 28, 2023

Today was Cartagena, Columbia and there were 4 cruise ships in port so traffic was bad. We had an early tour and met our bus at 8:20 and basically did a panoramic tour of old town and new town with a 30 minute stop for shopping. Cartagena is considered part of the Caribbean but the water is not as nice as you would expect and the beaches are not the white sand beaches we are used to in Florida.

View from our balcony this am. The modern high-rises of Cartagena.

San Felipe de Barajas Fort. Construction began in 1536, and the fort took a total of 121 years to build. Once a major defense against pirates, today it is a remarkably restored edifice and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Kathy made a new friend who tried to eat her travel bag.

At the port they have a zoo with all types of birds and some animals like anteaters. You walk around and then of course there is the requisite gift shop.

We were back on board by 10:30 and spent the afternoon reading and napping. We had dinner in the buffet with a few friends.

There was a container ship docked next to us and it took 3 tugs to pull the boat out of the port.

We sailed at 2pm and we are headed to Colon, Panama
